As such,it is somewhat less effective as an ad, although for a customer justwanting to know what the different styles and patterns of straps availablelook like, it serves its purpose. De Franco's high praise for the LeBlanc, "It has the most evenscale of any clarinet...bar none" and "It gives me a new freedom ofplaying" creates a picture for the reader of what the LeBlanc could do forhim (LeBlanc Corporation). The text at the bottom providing the details ofthe festival de Franco will be playing and his upcoming role as judge of acompetition emphasizes his high level of expertise, and therefore hiscredibility as an advocate of LeBlanc clarinets. At the topis "Sugar 'n Spice and Everything Nice" (Alexis). Thereis no reference to the guitar's quality, features, or any other attributethat would make a consumer want to buy it. Moreover, because the wholemeaning of the ad rests on the date, it has more the flavor of a historylesson than an ad, and it was a greater tribute to the slain president thanto the guitar. "Meet the Family." Picasa. logo. .Martin & Co. .LeBlanc Corporation. "Alexis Straps forGirls" is superimposed over the photo of the girl with a heart incorporatedinto the text (Alexis). The fourth ad shows seven PRS SE guitars with the caption "Meet theFamily," and a block of text explaining how the variety of guitarsavailable in the SE family allows the reader to express himself in avariety of ways (SE). Above thepicture is the somewhat cryptic text, "Though I never met him, I knew himjust the same; oh he was a friend of mine" ("Martin & Co."). There is noclue from the picture or this text to whom it is referring, but underneathin small print, it says "Written on the night of November 22, 1963,recorded 26 years later on a 12-string" ("Martin & Co."). Kennedy, and anyone not knowingthat fact would not be able to figure out what the ad is talking about.Superimposed over the picture in the lower right-hand corner is the Martin& Co. "Buddy de Franco." Picasa. The televisionis on, but the screen is blank, and no one is in the room. This is an attractive ad with a clever premise, thatthe three legends are who they are because of the Ovation guitars theyplayed. This is another attractive ad, and the text is effective as well. "Though I Never Met Him." Picasa. In the background is a tonal print of someoneplaying a guitar. .Ovation. The second ad shows a guitar resting against a paneled wall, with afifties-style living room in sight behind and to the left. The ad relies entirely on the photo to advertise the product; thereis no text promoting the straps' attributes, and no endorsement. The choice of Glen Campbell as a guitar-playing legend seemssomewhat amiss, since he is mainly regarded as a country and westernsinger, but aside from that, it is an effective ad, and in my opinion themost effective of those I examined. That is the dateof the assassination of President John F. This is an effective ad because of the celebrityendorsement, and the sketch is a perfect fit with the tone and image ofjazz music. .SE. On theleft, it pictures a girl playing the guitar fitted with an Alexis strap,and to the right several colorful Alexis straps are displayed. At the bottom in a black bar is the SE logo and website. "Three Legends: Four Lasting Legacies." Picasa. Although this ad has impact for the person who happens to knowwhat the date refers to, it is not an effective ad for the guitar. The fifth ad is an ad for Alexis guitar straps for girls. . The third ad was for Ovation guitars and pictured three guitar-playing"legends," Glen Campbell, Josh White, and Charlie Kaman, along with thefour Ovation guitars they used and a tribute to the latter as "Four LastingLegacies" (Ovation). Music Product Ads Five different music product ads were evaluated for this assessment.The first was an ad for LeBlanc clarinets that shows a sketch of musicianBuddy de Franco playing the clarinet, with a quote by him that explains whyhe enjoys playing on a LeBlanc and a notice at the bottom of an upcomingjazz festival where he will be playing as well as judging a competition(LeBlanc Corporation). In all, the ad is quiteeffective. This ad does a good job of displaying the strapsclearly, and it targets preteen or teenage girls, so it has a whimsicaltouch.
